Lorie Lichtenwalner and Lizzie Cahalin

Lorie Lichtenwalner is a singer, songwriter, guitarist, and bass player and has been playing music since she was a teen. She grew up in Nazareth, PA with parents who participated in the 1960s folk scare and encouraged the kids to sing at the table. At 12, Lorie attended the Philly Folk Festival and “got hooked” watching how much fun and camaraderie she saw amongst the bands.
Lorie is a member of Grammy nominated band Troublesome Creek and still attends every fiddlers convention and traditional music festival she can. When she’s not playing music, Lorie is a nurse and resides in Augusta County. Lorie is the mother of three musical daughters, Molly and Sally Murphy, and Lizzie Cahalin.
In December 2024, Lizzie graduated from East Tennessee State University with a degree in Bluegrass, Old-Time, and Roots Music Studies. There, she had the privilege of studying under phenomenal musicians such as Wyatt Rice, Tim Stafford, Kalia Yeagle, Dan Boner, and Brittany Haas. As a member of the ETSU Bluegrass Pride Band, she played guitar and sang both melody and harmony, getting the chance to share the stage with legendary musicians such as Rhonda Vincent, Ricky Skaggs, and Becky Buller. With the ETSU Bluegrass Pride Band, Lizzie traveled and performed in Bermuda, the Bahamas, Arizona, and Florida, gaining invaluable experience with her extremely talented peers as part of this ambassador band.
Lizzie’s professional work also includes performing internationally and in the U.S. beyond her ETSU studies. In the summer of 2023, she toured Italy as the fiddle player for the Bailey Mountain Cloggers, a dance band affiliated with Mars Hill University. Her versatility as a performer has allowed her to engage audiences in diverse settings and genres, further enriching her musical journey. Since 2019, Lizzie has also taught private lessons and worked with the Junior Appalachian Musicians (JAM) program, further honing her skills as an educator.
